Mary Ann Richardson was the third child of George Richardson & Mary Linsley born at Carr House, Seaham & christened October 14th, 1832 at St. Andrew’s, Dalton-le-Dale, Seaham, Co Durham
At the time of the 1851 census Mary was a general servant for Thomas & Mary Willis, a farmer at Seaton.
Mary Ann married William Scott on July 4th, 1852 at Seaham. Witnesses at the wedding were John Richardson, Mary Ann’s brother, & Elizabeth Raine. William, a labourer of Seaton, was born in Worton, Yorks in 1822, the son of William Scott, a labourer.
In 1861 William & Mary were living at Tunstall Rd, Sunderland & William was a farm Servant. They had 2 children – Margaret (7) born in Sunderland & John (2) born in Silksworth.
By 1871 the family were living at Red House Farm, Ryhope, Sunderland & William was described as a farm labourer. They now had 3 children at home – Margaret (17), John (12) & James (6). It was noted on the census that Mary had been born at Carr House, Durham.
In 1881 Mary & William were still living at Red House Farm, Ryhope, Sunderland & William was a farmer. No children were at home.
Mary Ann died at Grangetown in 1887 & was buried on March 2nd at St Paul’s, Ryhope.
In 1891 widowed William was living with daughter Margaret & her husband Thomas Innes, a rolleyman, at 27 John St, Sunderland. It was noted on the census that William had ‘sciatica pains’.
